Where did God come from?

Since we are human, we can't fully understand the concept of God's existence. In order for us to comprehend God, we us phrases such as: "without beginning or end," "eternal," "infinite," etc. The Bible says that God has always existed: "...from everlasting to everlasting you are God" (Psalm 90:2). It also says that "Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity" (Psalm 93:2).

Our concept of time is linear. We understand that one second follows another and one minute after another. We get older, not younger and we cannot go back to the moments that have passed. We have all seen time lines and understand that time moves from left to right on the line, from beginning to end. Our concept of time is from start to finish, from beginning to end. Eternity is something that we practically can't comprehend because we never face it, we are stuck in one dimension of time; always progressing forward, never able to go back.

This sounds great, but is there any scientific evidence to support God being eternal? This is where things get complicated, but I will try to explain them as best I can.

Physics shows that time is a property that results from the existence of matter. Basically, time exists because matter exists. (see spacetime and The Theory of Relativity) Time is referred to as the 4th dimension (length, width, depth (or height), and time). Even basic understanding of God acknowledges that God is not bound by the first 3 dimensions and it is logical (not scientific) to assume that He is not bound by the 4th. Something that we understand about God is that He is not matter. In fact, God created matter. Before He created matter, God simply existed, since there was no matter and thus no time.

Therefore, to ask "Where did God come from?" cannot be applied to Him in the first place because time has no relation to who God is. It has no bounds on God's existence. Actually, God is beyond eternity (since eternity refers to time). So thus, God is outside the realm of time. Look at the first thing in the Bible. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). The Bible understood the Laws of Physics thousands of years ago, when God created matter, He also created time.

So where did God come from? Nowhere. He has always existed, outside the realm of time, even beyond eternity. God has no beginning and, thankfully, no end. Look what God says about Himself; "I am who I am" (Exodus 3:14). He just is, He just exists.
